Ron Davis info for #1100 1A for KA24DE-T

Post by eastbaysolo_73 »

Hi

Is anyone on here running this radiator in there SR OR KAT powered 510?
Ive been back and forth with Ron Davis via e-mail and they don't recommend this
radiator for street use. They say its a drag racing only radiator. I know I've read on here somewhere that a few of you are using this radiator with your set up. My question is are you having any cooling issues? Due to lack of space and the intercooler Im running. I can't run anything larger than a 2" thick radiator.
Ron Davis recommends I run a 2 3/4 custom build radiator and that was priced at around $1500 + Unfortunately to rich for my blood at the moment. Any any feed back will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :|

Here's a comment - you waited a whole two days for comments and you didn't even get any comments yet?

My comment would be that using a small radiator will be fine for street use. My car uses a radiator that is about twice the size for racing purposes.

Agreed, it's interesting that not many have weighed in here on the rad's they have used. however most guys did post their rads in thier individual build threads.

i too made a custom rad for the Bronze. It's way overbuilt, and I'm sure it would easily cool a 350 HP application. My issue is that it's too big most of the time, and I'm going to have to block part of it off for the spring and fall season drives as I can't get the engine up to temp (or oil temp as it's integrated).

I'll get back with a link to this in my build.

Well, I was going to post a link to my build thread, but most of my photo links are broken....

Here is where it starts for my custom rad build;

http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.ph ... &start=645

I put roughly $1000 worth of parts into my rad, but the heat exchange and fittings accounted for more that 2/3rds of that. the Ford rad I cut up was quite cheap, and the rest was labor and knowing a friendly welder. but there was quite a bit of time involved with the installation on the labour side as I was trying to squeeze the most out of it.

Thank Byron510 for the link and taking the time to comment on this thread. I will have to look into the build threads I guess. I don't have tons of time to do that but I will give it a go anyhow. Between work 3 kids and wife time these days is scarce. Thanks again

So I ended up going with the Ron Davis 1100 1A after all. I should have it by next week. Fitment wise its great and will fit my set up perfectly. Gonna look for some good fans to get the most CFM'S I can to compensate for the lack of airflow to the radiator. My IC sits right up against it and its 11 inches tall. Not much air will reach the rad. Build thread coming soon.

Lol it seems like im constantly talking to my self on this thread. Don't know who I pissed off but wow. Anyhow for informational purposes after speaking to Ron Davis on the phone. The radiator is capable of handling 325 HP for street driving. But anything over that could possibly cause cooling issues. Again part # 1100 1A will work perfectly for the KA24DE motor. My KA is boosted so that was the reason for concern and purpose of this thread since there's not much info out there on a proven radiator for a ka24de-t. Hope this thread gave a little insight on the Ron Davis radiator # 1100 1A . Here's a motor shot for you ka lovers if there's any out there. Crappy photo only one I could find on my computer.

Nice looking motor. 300+ hp in a 510 will be a handful. Especially when that KA comes on boost. I'm just under 180hp at the wheels and my car feels very fast. Do you have a build thread started? It would be great to see your car.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?
