SR20 oil pan brands and skid plates :)

Post by sr20ve510 »

I smashed my oil pan last week. And got a crack in my OEM pan. I need some advice.

300.00 Greddy oil pan?
300.00 Tomei..
80.00 OEM...
130.00 ISIS.....
86.00 Ebay...

And what are your feelings on a skid-plate? What is your recommendation for a brand that is compatible. Is there one?
Argh!!

This is new to me, thanks for your patience.

Do not buy the ebay oil pan. That think is no good. The casting is horrible and can lead to severe issues. Other than that its up to you on what you wanna spend. The tomei and the greddy i believe allow an extra quart so a total of 5 instead of 4 and of course they are aluminum and you get the bling factor. This is just gonna give you some added safety if your gonna be tracking the car hard. If not the oem one should be fine.

As far as skid plates go they are out there but they seem to be hard to come by. Someone else may know more on that.

Also sometimes a crack can be repairable. I got a hairline fracture in the oil pan in a car i used to drive. Just drained out all the oil and let it sit to drain for a day. Cleaned it all up and fixed it with jb weld. Drove it for another 2 years with no problems before i sold it.

Keep in mind that if you have slammed and cracked a steel pan, slamming a cast aluminum pan will result in more catastrophic damage. The cast aluminum isn't going to bend before it breaks.

I am running a SR20 with a Greddy oil pan, I am also curious if anybody has come up with a skid plate for protection.

I'm using a moroso pan. Just like the greddy and tomei units with extra capacity and baffles. It looks like a mix of both. I think I paid $199 on black friday. )) As for a skid plate, it'll have to custom made since different oil pan setups out there.

we use the alloy type oil pans on all our engines.
They are much much tougher than the metal ones.
Just sitting an SR on its pan is enough to warp the pan
& restrict oil flow.
The alloy pans will take a lot more abuse than the OEM ones.
We know by the number, and depth of gouges on some of our cars pans.
The increased capacity is a plus as well as the traps.
We have used pans similar to the ISIS with good results.
Concur the cheap ebay units are super crap.
we also retap the drain plug & fit a hex head type .

WHere did you find the MOroso pan for $200, everywhere I just looked was around $300? Is it deeper (closer to the ground) than the stock pan? I ask because my stock pan is terribly low, and I can't go with anything that is lower. Does the Moroso pan use the stock pickup?

I got the pan from Enjuku during their black friday sale. It's no deeper than the stock pan just wider. Uses the stock pickup but I upgraded mine to a s14 peice.

I bought the R & D Factory oil pan and it works great bro. $130.00
It is exactly like the Tomei oil pan. The quality is super sick and heavy duty.

I just checked out the R&D pan and it looks nice but there are no detail pictures. Is it baffled? Could you post a pic of the inside? Nice find, and for $120 plus shipping its a great deal, cheaper than homemade all things considered.

I got lucky and managed to buy the greddy pan for $300 off ebay. The pulley kit was also only $230

There are great deals out there, you just have to look for them 8)
