4 link wagon...needs new motor

Post by johnbureezu »

I'm getting my ducks in a row to get my wagon 4 linked. I want to have most if not all of the parts before the cutting begins.
Right now my rear end (ford 8.8") is at the shop getting shortened to match the stock goon dimensions. I'm actually going to have the shop take a 1/4" off of each side to give me a lil more room for deeper offset wheels.
Heres where i need a lil help. Prolly going to use this kit from suicidedoors.com because of the quality, but do you guys know of anybody else I should consider?
http://suicidedoors.com/UniversalTriang ... inkKit.php
Now, what coilover setup should I run? I haven't done much research on shocks other than looking through a jeg's catalog. What should I be looking for when choosing a coilover setup?
Oh yeah, i guess i should tell you guys my setup and plans for teh car to get a good opinion, eh.

1972 wagon with an SR20det(future plans for bout 350hp)
The car is semi daily driver and I like to drive hard occasionally(dori dori)...hence the monster rear end. It already has 280z struts coilovered with 225lb eibachs. I really like to use the rear cargo area for what its intended, hauling shit and people around so no crazy cage going in. Would 250lb spring in the rear suffice? Simplicity is key.

I really want to do this right the first time round. Been reading up on HillbillyHectors setup and I'm using it as a reference. Seeing that he had to redo it himself. I dont have the skills(yet) or the money(yet) to do it twice or thrice.

So please fire away with comment and suggestions, I need them.
:D

RE: Need suggestions plz... 4 link wagon

Before you set up the 4-link angles, it would be a good idea to read Herb Adams "Chassis Engineering" - he talks a lot about basic ideas of 4-link systems set up for anti-squat, with a braking decouple system if you are so inclined...

I would build your own link system, it can be very easy. I have built many for my own trucks in the past. The only hard part is getting the pinion angle to stay the same through the full cycle of the travel; you are going to want your pivot points to be the same on the car as the axle. Like the same distance between the upper and lower mounts.

If you are looking for a shop to do it. A good friend of mine has his own shop(use to work there) that will build you a custom setup that won’t be all hacked up for a good price. The shop is in El Cajon and is called Chappell’s, they do custom exhaust and full frame building. If you would like there number just let me know!

Gotta make it fit. Four link should be mocked by next week so we can see how much of the original floorpan can be saved. Were gonna get it tunneled it also. I really wanna keep the rear seat original 'looking' so this will be fun.

The bigger pics are in this album towards the end.

And the camera with the wide angle is a canon rebel EOS XTI with a russian made zenitar lens. The other camera is a simple canon elph sd300.

Oh yeah, the rear axle is from a ford thunderbird turbo coupe. Its a 8.8" with trak lok LSD.

This software will help you get the geometry right when designing your links and it's pretty inexpensive.

Unless you are flaring the rear, you are going to have to have that diff housing narrowed what looks to be 6 inches.

It's actually been narrowed 5 inches on each side. Took an extra 1/4 inch off each side to get some deeper wheels in there. You can see where its been cut in the pics.

Bryan, is that your site? I see your name listed at the bottom of the page, so I am curious what your affiliation is to that site.

It's not my site, but it's my software.
