I agree with Phil.. as I am disappointed with almost all the paint jobs that I have seen in person, Paint looks good on top , then you look at welds and patch repair and..... garbage. Trust me I have seen it!!! Makes me unsettle. Then the painter will say "I've spent so many hrs on this and that" to try to compensate on something. I like your car, looks good!!! better late than rushed!!!

I agree, It's seldom that a paint shop actually delivers what they promise. I did most of the body work on my car, and for the most part I think it turned out really good. It's the paint job that fell short. In all fairness I should preface my complaint by saying I never intended to build a show car, and I paid only $2,700 for the paint job I got. That being said there were mistakes that could have been avoided and should have been addressed. On the advice of the shop owner we used a single stage solvent based Emron boat paint that is rock hard. Unfortunately the painter didn't thin the paint enough so there was an excessive amount of orange peal. Even with two days of wet sanding and buffing at the shop I have found areas on the lower body and door panels that sill have work to do. As my intent was a clean track car I guess I shouldn't really be so concerned with that level of detail.

Another thing I did not anticipate with the yellow color is that in the sun all the highlight reflections make the color look a bit muted and washed out. Inside my shop however the color is deep and saturated. If I had it to do over again I would go a shade darker.

^^ Is that the same car? Looks like you converted it to a '68, wipers, taillights, grill, fenders, and all. Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks right-hand-drive, too. Looks nice!

Naw dude, that's just your imagination.....put down the crack pipe and do a little search for his build thread!! you will be amazed what this site has to offer. Phil is an amazing builder of the mighty 510.....one of the best.

Holly Molly that looks fantastic! I am a huge fan of black on yellow stemming from my Yamaha YZ125 days long long ago. As it sits now my car is sold yellow with all black trim, pictures above. This configuration doesn't have long for this world. My brother and I are already talking about the next step in graphics. We both agree that the body look now is too flat, but just how we are going to get that dimensionality without loosing respect for the body shape is not so easy. Right now Ken's talking about a black fade from the front to about mid car. Only the leading edge would be solid black, and then we'd have BRE stripes ghosted in relief. I'm not so sure about that design.

Please keep posting, I'd love to see how this comes together.

Dan, that looks great. Yes it is hard to believe that was my old 4 door! Thank you so much for taking the touch and carrying it so well. I was sure that car got scrapped, I was so happy to hear it turned up again, and now look at it. It was a pretty solid shell when I sold it over 10 years ago. Keep us posted.
