Great build pics.

Have you figured out radiator hoses yet?

I too am installing an SR20, a CX Racing radiator, and the ‘straight out the side’ water outlet.

I am trying to figure out radiator hoses but don’t want to use their blue silicone hoses. Looking for part numbers for plain ol’ black Gates/Dayco off-the-shelf hoses.

Thanks

You can just make a CAD one from toilet paper rolls and head to the local parts shop to find one that matches yours.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

I do have the hoses. Similar to what funwithmonkeys said, I went to the parts store with coat hangers bent to the shape I needed, looked at the hose catalog and found close matches. I would suggest to do the same to make sure it fits your application.

I know I have the part numbers of my hoses somewhere. I'll dig them out and let you know.

Here's an exemple of the coat hanger trick
Image

If I'm not mistaken, the upper hose (Gates 20779) is cut from a stock 510 lower radiator hose.
Image

The lower hose is 1 size under (Dayco 71260). It's a bit hard to slip on but it does. It will do the job just fine.
Image

There was a similar shaped hose the right size, but the parts store didn't have it in stock.
Here's a picture of the catalog (Dayco 71778)

I hope it helps!

Thank you so much. I would wander to the parts store but we are being told to say home...

Thanks for the PNs.

I ordered a Dayco 71778 and it is just a bit too long for my set-up (I have my radiator top flush with the top of the core support).

I ended up using Gates 23372 on the upper and Gates 22515 for the lower on my setup: http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.ph ... 65#p279865

hey guys, it's been a pretty long time since my last post.
I made some progress since, but the project has been sitting for about a year now. I'm kind of stuck on a logistic problem... I still have some free time despite having 2 babies now, but since the 3 bedrooms are right above the garage. I can't continue the noisy/dirty stuff while everyone is asleed above. Because of that, the project is at a standstill.

So, I've decided to send my project to Fritz so he can work on it over the winter. If all goes according to plan, I should have a running 510 next summer!

All packed up and ready to go.

I made the 2 hours trip last saturday to drop it off at his place.
I can't wait to see how it goes!

Hey guys!

It's been a bit more than a year and 700+ hours or work since my last update. The project is still going strong, but I did not have the energy/will to keep posting every tiny bit of progress.

Anyway, this week the project hit a major milestone. All the body work and paint is done! It took twice the amount of hours initially anticipated to get to this point, but I think it was worth it to do everything right in the end insted of cutting corners.

Image

Everything was fitted prior to the final bodywork, so from now on It should only be a matter of reassembling everything.
The plan is to have this thing running, approved and registered this summer!

Surprise gift

Post by Fred_L-P »

I went to the bodyshop last week to settle the last details. They had a surprise for me, painted colormatch to the car!

Image

I'll bring the project back home this week and slowly start the reassembly process.
