Nice project.

Say, as I scrolled through your thread, I saw the picture of the Weber re-build kit.

In that...is the WRONG top gasket!!! I can send you the proper one if you like, or, talk to Jim at Overseas Auto in Vancouver. Maybe grab a few spares, as they do loose their "crush" after a few removals.

The wrong gasket allows fuel from the float bowl to slosh up the back of the float bowl and potentially
get into the air corrector jets. The gasket does work in normal driving conditions for the most part, but, if you get tossing the car around, it can become a problem.

I HAVE ATTACHED TWO PICTURES SHOWING THE DIFFERENCE. I have lived this carb for 36 years.

Also, if you plan on sticking with this carb, there is a really NICE bearing kit for the throttles, makes it very smooth.

Thank you very much for the info I wasn't aware of this! Send me a PM, I would like to purchase one from you if that's possible. I do have a set of 40 dcoe's that I plan on reviving 8)

This has been a good exercise, as I need to check my stock on gaskets. I have a project coming up that will need one or two. So, I will see what I have and let you know, and/or hit Overseas up for some, then send you one.

Ok, so here is the deal.

I have only one spare left ( Rats! ) I phoned Jim at Overseas, he has none. It turns out he has not ordered for a year or so, they come from Italy. ALL the Red Line ones are WRONG. This takes me back many years ago, when I got a Redline kit, and pointed out that they were WRONG. Jim does not have enough "orders" for other stuff from Italy, so he will not be getting any for awhile.

So, as I did with the engine bay tags, I am on a freak'in MISSION to get my own made locally...I will become the GASKET KING of Canada and the top gasket distributor for these things!

Sorry I've been neglecting to update this thread!
The car got new carpet in time for the Japanese car show.

Also got some eye lashes from Mooneyes japan. Grew up in a hot rod family so I've always liked this look

Auto tranny blew up on the way home, dumped many litres of ATF in the parliament building parking
Got a full swap from a guy in Nanaimo, went 4 speed to keep things simple.

I got the trans rebuilt by an old guy who used to own an shop in town (I think his name is David Rivers?).
At this point life got in the way and I didn't touch the car for a year. Eventually I sold my E7 Corolla :( But it freed up time to put into the Datsun.

Quickly painted it, installed with new Exedy clutch kit. This adding a 3rd peddle made this car ALOT cooler :D

Had some old school Wipac fog lights laying around so I threw em on
Image

Picked up some 40s!
Image

Ripped the head off because I thought the head gasket was leaking. Turned out to be the intake coolant ports/bad manifold gasket.
Fresh head gasket set, valve stem seals, L20B cam, new Canon intake kit, blah blah blah....

The previous owners of this car kept basically every receipt for maintenance, accidents etc. Here are a few I got around to scanning.

^Last one from when the car had its body work done, it was later painted somewhere else (cheaper  ). From what I gather, Dora Pratt, the older lady I bought the car off of, has a son (maybe a Dave?) who used to be pretty active in the local Datsun community. Not sure if he's still around... :?:

Wow small world! Seeing the address of the original owner I can throw a football across the street and hit the house! I'm going to wander over there one day to see if the old couple is still around and show them your pics!

Looks great, love the colour and those wheels suit it so well.

Can I ask what thread it is on the back of the head for the coolant pipe? Want to tidy mine up a bit.
