Do you have the part number on those Tokicos? And did you happen to measure them before you installed them.

thanks man, they were a big improvement over the 13in Ds I originally had on the car. witch is strange because the 13s look better on my 68. must have something to do with ride height

Here is the part # but No I didn't measure them, however i needed to use the stock top cap not the ones that came in the box to make up the difference in height on the wagon strut

long time no update......back in 2013Image

Ive spent the last week cleaning up a strong running L16 I got off Funwithmonkeys. the engine was a leaker with rock hard seals and gaskets brittle as glass that chipped and shattered off. it must have had some sort of leak stop added as mineral spirits would not budge the goo off the block.

with the block stripped its time to paint. but what blue to use Cadillac, ford, or is there a Datsun blue available? I could go Oldsmobile gold but will ICBC reject my C plate application for incorrect colour?

looks very close to the Cadillac blue. I thought the Datsun block blue was the same as the stripe on the grill badge?

Nice picture! Don't worry about the colour, they're not that picky.

She was a leaker for sure.....I just thought of it as keeping the oil fresh and preventing me from having to change it. She ran strong though, Andy said he thought it was near 100hp with the intake and header I had on it.

its good that she was a leaker, corrosion was minimal and some of the plating remained on the fasteners. im very happy i did the rear main seal. it was about to let go  in the before time someone had added seal swell causing the seal to break down. it was mush to the point that if I squeezed it between my fingers i could see my prints left in the rubbery goo. I also replaced some timing bits as the tensioner was just starting to cock over in the bore on over run. I know this motor will be a big improvement over the last 1600 that lost many of its horses with 7-8k shifts and 2 gear drop compression skids

i hope so........got the block all painted and assembled minus the oil pan, dizzy and intake. I went with the Cadillac blue can that i was in possession of. looks good its the same shade as the car it was pulled from. (check Norms thumb)

finally took the plunge and rolled the car over to the swing set and pulled the tired L16 on Saturday. I started the job off right by snapping off a hood bolt and scratching the cowl.( see what happens when you don't chase the treads and don't use never seize  ). the rest of the job went fast and in an hour the tired L16 was sitting on the floor and the fun of cleaning up the bay commenced.

by sunday evening monkey's L16 was in its new home. with no plans of operating radio flyer on winter roads the introduction of petrol will have to wait till spring.

now im back to waiting for parts...............mmm maybe I will swap in a set of built 68 struts and give her a rake.

Radio flyer is ready for permit. monkey's L16 was breathing fire yesterday, thanks to Butters and the collector gasket mixed in with the goodies he dropped off.

It's great that that motor is getting a new life in the flyer. It will be interesting to hear how much stronger it feels than the old one.
