Picked up a 69 4dr

Post by Micatom33 »

I saw this car about a year ago while out on a drive in my car. I started talking to the owner and noticed that some oil was leaking out from under the hood. I asked her if we could look under the hood and I discovered that the oil cap was missing and advised her to take it home. After talking for a while we exchanged #'s. Did not hear anything untill today. Soo short story , He said that I would be the fourth owner . I guess it originated in Oregon and moved to Arizona then back to California, the odometer stoped working at 52,000 miles? The guy I got it from said he put about 4000 miles on so it might be around a 60,00 mile car. I will try to keep you updated.

Looks very nice. '69s are my favorite 510.

I thought I might add a few more pics and info. Looks good under the mats, back seat great, and a trunk of DATSUN 510 Swag, vintage ads, service manuals and oh yea the book :)

This car also had a subaru A/C system put in which works great. A VW radiator was added to take care of the additional cooling needs, and a higher amps? alternator. Beyond that a electric dizzy and I think thats about it.

Hainz, you could try and pry the Red on red '71 that Jason has in Vancouver. It's all original with the stock hubcaps, beautiful rust free car that needs very little. I'm not sure he would part with it though.

After further review I belive it is time for tune up.

It seems the last owner's did not even try to take care of this car. I cleaned up the engine bay from all the oil spray( from on oil cap incident) Valve cover bolts were lose and leaking, Oil drain plug has the wrong washer on it and was spinning freely, Alternator bolts were all lose and I will have to take a look at the mounting system for this, as one of the bolts on the custom bracket broke off in the block , and oh yea I removed the spark plugs annd pistons 2,4 are wet with antifreeze  . Now the carb as you can see needs some work. I removed the radiator and started the process of the engine removal, Uhh...

That's too bad about the state of the car due to the PO...but all that is easy to fix. Still appears to be a very solid, delicious sedan, and we're all still jealous.
