One of the engines is on the way to the machine shop this weekend for new rings, main & rod bearings and a valve seat refresh. Thought I would clean up the ports a little bit first while I have it all apart. Here's a few shots.

... and I also just got my new clutch kit in. It's an Exedy-Daikin Hyper Single kit (specifically for the SR20DET) and consists of an aluminum clutch cover, 6-puck ceramic puck sprung hub disc and a chrome-moly lightweight flywheel. Man, does this sucker ever look beefy!! It's about a Stage 3 - the strongest you can get before going into a twin plate setup. Hopefully this should make my clutch slipping woes a thing of the past. It is going along with the engine to the machine shop so the whole assembly can be balanced with the crank and front pulley.

A comment about the tying in of the front structure of the cage; Where did you make the connection(s) from the main cage in the cabin to the front suspension pick ups through the fire wall? I can see the bar from the strut tower both fwd to the T/C rod mounts and rearward behind the area of the valve cover on the firewall.

Forms an "X" through the air box at the base of the windshield and ties into the front uprights of the main part of the cage (right around where the ends of the dash normally bolt up on the A pillar). You can sort of see it in these pics.

That's a good photo of the air box area. I did a similar bar on my ice racer, but I regret that I did not tie into the front suspension, I got a hard hit on the front end, which resulted in the top of the drivers strut tower moving rearward 3/4 of an inch. Not I need to repair the alignment, and add the bars to hold it there! An expensive lesson in time and proper preparation.

Thanks for the pix,

Byron

Thought I would disassemble and repack the CV joints on my rear axles while I am waiting for the car to come back from the paint shop. The Nissan FSM says they can't be rebuilt - but that seems to be only because Nissan does not carry any parts for them - just replacement boots. Some forum surfing and I found out they can be serviced. They are called a Birfield CV joint, a very strong type of CV joint that is more commonly seen in applications like the front hubs of a Toyota Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol (heavy duty stuff!). These particular axles were used on the 1988 Nissan 300ZX Turbo. Here's a couple of pics of them taken apart before painting and reassembly.

Update. Got all of the suspension bits, cross members and other custom bits powder coated in gloss black. Ready for reassembly when the shell comes back from the body shop.

Dropped by the body shop today. Here's some pics of the hood, doors, etc. All of the bodywork is completed and the green is the primer coat with some finished colour mixed in. This way, if I get a stone chip here and there, it won't show so bad and can be easily touched up.

Thanks violation!! Can't wait to get it all back together. Dropping by the body shop again tomorrow - apparently they have the shell primered now and are just finishing off the last of the bodywork. Should be painted next week. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them.

Dropped by the body shop again today - my baby has finally made its way into the booth. The grey is the epoxy primer (which was put over the bare metal), then filler to smooth things aout around the rear flares. Next it gets another layer of epoxy over the filler to seal it, then the coloured primer.

Here's some updated pics I took today.
