Funny how some people think you left the county because you are busy and can't make it out with the 510 or don't post much these days. Working new job, hiking, traveling, Photography, Air-cooled VWs, and spending tons of time in BCs great outdoors, etc.... fill my days up pretty much these days. But there is always time for some fun in the 510, be it a evening cruise with the GF for some ice cream, a solo rip around the lake :twisted: , or out to the odd car show or cruise.

Not much to report on the 510, other then I'm finding it way to loud these days! Im going to look into changing out the muffler this winter for something a little less harder on the ears on longer drives and the neighbours ears at 6AM when I leave for work :roll: . { yes I know I must be getting old ;) }

PS; Oh yeah I did have one problem this spring. Rough engine miss and tack going crazy then nothing.../... sitting on the side of the road trying to get home after work - a push and pull on some of the connections for the ignition and I was up and running again. Seems some of the connections didn't like winter storage this winter. I cleaned them up at home after and used some dielectric grease as well. Good to go.

I've always loved your car. It's one of the top of so many around here that inspire me to keep working on mine.

I think we're all getting older because in the last while quite a few people have been mentioning that their car is loud and they would prefer it toned down a bit. I know when it comes time to build an exhaust for my car it will be as loud as necessary but as quiet as possible. I'm pretty sure my neighbours in their 80's aren't going to be too impressed though.

:shock: slimed this thread as its late here, going to go back and read the whole thing tomorrow. Amazing work, stunning car and stunning location. Those photos are making me want to be in B.C even more than usual.
Glad you enjoyed your French road trip, got any pictures from that?

Last drive of the year to fill the tank up for storage this Thursday, insurance will expire before this rain stops I'm sure... :(

Posable winter to do list=
LOF
Change out muffler to quieter setup!
Install rear seat, trim, trans tunnel carpet and the insulation.
Change out carbs, hook up PCV valve system and vac advance. Start building new intake system or rebuild new carbs for later in the year. Or possibly run weber and save for KA T
Improvements to seatbelt / harness
Install factory trunk liner and spare tire and jack
New tires -NTO1 225/45R15 {my cost for 4 - under $400 through work during our Nito warehouse sale in the spring :) }
Bleed brakes with fresh fluid {was lazy this year lol}
Save settings and re align front end for more of a street setting.

* And the big one + Apply for the classic plates in January { Modified class 1974 and older}

Morning Chad,

Fill us in on the application, that is something I want to do also, then at the same time I can register my car here on the lower mainland, now that airscare has ceased to exist.

Hopefully they have their new system bug sorted. I had problems putting 3 months insurance on, where as I NEVER had problems before. They figured it out finally, took 20 minutes, and I sweat bullets I was not going to make that last drive to Squamish.

I'm still planning on doing another fall drive, one more test for me.

Hi Keith, Im excited to apply for this plate in the coming year. Our years are supposed to be included now after Jan 01. 8) Cheeper insurance at your cars proper value year round. Small downside for some , not me, is you have to have one other vehicle insured year round in your name and the classic plated car can only be used for pleasure use only. Zero use for work etc. Process should be the same as years past. Fill application papers out. tons of photos of car to show the complete condition of the car. It has to meet collector plate condition worthiness etc. No bad paint, incomplete cars etc... Im going in for storage insurance later and should know more later. Im going to finish off the interior and start the process in Jan, I heard it sometimes take some time to get approved as they want some things improved on applicants cars sometimes before getting approved. I will post the process as I get going in Jan, I think a bunch of use might be doing this. Looking forward to having the option of taking my car out anytime during the year with these plates. Fingers crossed!

Carbs have been changed out and some interior pieces gathered from storage for cleaning. Then the weather put a stop to the work. Its just too cold in my non heated garage ... :)

Copy that on working in the non heater garage! I've been running wiring in the walls this past couple weeks in the evenings - damn it's cold out there. Can't wait to get this part done so I can start insulating the thing! I'm looking for excuses to go down the hard ware store all the time - gives me a few moments to warm up in the car! Obviously I'm getting old or something. Here I have my dream garage and I'm complaining!! Nuts, but it'll get there eventually. But certainly no wrench work happening for me these days.
Saw your post about the Christmas Party - see you guy there Chad.

Since you had the most recent activity of any 'featured builds' I decided to check out your thread. Besides your phenomenal Dime I was really impressed with your photos from France. My new dream is to go to France and rent a '68 Porsche 912! Yes, there's an Air B&B-ish rental co. that does this with privately owned classics (read about it on www.petrolicious.com). What did you drive in France?
Seeing that you live in Fraser Valley I have to say one of the best drives of my life was 25 years ago bringing my '72, 2 door, dk blue (same as yours I think), 1800 SSS, 510 from Fairbanks, Ak to my new home in Portland, Or. The day I wound through the Fraser River Canyon was perfect! Absolutely gorgeous Fall day, 1800 hummin'. Great memory of a great car, a great road, and a great place. Don't take it for granted. Oh, by the way, can I come live with you guys before Jan. 20th? :^(

Moved the car out of the garage today to start some cleaning on the seats. Never noticed they were two-tone before or maybe just old. :shock: Next pick up some vinyl die for the sunvisors and some hardware from the other shop along with some more trim pieces. Underlay, rear fender well trim, under seat trim, and find some transmission tunnel carpet.
Then start looking at some mufflers to find one that will be quieter and fit in same location.

Not yet, I need to finish interior and then they want a ton of photos when I apply for it.
This cold winter has set me back months, that and I start my new job in April. Took two and a half years to get it but I sign next week.

Ok, thanks. I will be going next week to get my car registered on the lower mainland and my brother off the car. I will check into it. I already have a ton of photos done when I got my car appraised, so I should be ahead of the game.

I have been waiting all year for this NIto sale at work. Timing was right as I'm leaving here soon. Half of branch cost. Nito NT01 :D
$404 for four out the door, not too bad...
