RUN TO THE CASCADES 2014

Post by bertvorgon »

This will be our thread for the upcoming drive to Winthrop and possibly up to Osoyoos, B.C. for the night, then back to Vancouver via the Hope/Princeton highway.

I would entertain we have an early start from Vancouver, just to miss as much traffic and Cpt. America's on the way to Winthrop. We would have brunch/lunch, then go visit the Museum for a few hours.

We would then fuel up on the way out of town, then head to the Okanagan.....

https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Winthrop ... 032304!3e0

It is only 93 miles, but very scenic with lots of twist and turns. Lots of Datsun pick-up trucks to watch out for.

We are looking at dates right now to throw out there. The other option, if most of the group has a time constraint for a two day trip, is to just do Winthrop/Museum, and head back same day.

Stay tuned.

I'll make it work Bert - really looking forward to this drive again.

Beginning of July onwards works for me.

How many are up for a 2 day trip, picking a motel in Osoyoos? Or, just there and back, with some time in the Museum.

Matt S. may or may not be available for the July 5th & 6th, which as it turns out is the July 4th long weekend for the yanks, so that might not be a good idea for border crossings anyhow. If a two dayer, we would just plan for a motel stay, keeps any ambiguity out of the equation..

Byron has put forth a couple of options too, that we do the WHOLE loop in one day, which is some serious time involved. It's doable, but, time in motion would be critical for the day, allowing for some good traffic during the afternoon in the Osoyoos to Keremeos to Princeton to Manning Park stretches. The Border crossing could take some time also. I would think that we would see a 14 hour plus day, depending if we went to the museum in Winthrop. That would be a 500+ MILE DAY, which we have done before. The slowest part of this trip would be from the Border crossing to Manning Park east gate, relatively speaking. We would be hitting that mid-afternoon and it is primarily single lane.

I'm thinking July 12th & 13th to avoid the long weekend in the U.S., or, the 19th and 20th, or, just one of those days.

Chime in, it would be nice to have a good sized group, for support if anything, due to distance involved.

Ok, lets throw out July 12th as the drive day, with the overnight as the option, July 13th to finish the lap..

This gets us crossing borders mid weekend, either way. As we get closer, we can then decide if an all day deal, or, a full on over night thing, or, the one lap in one day. I'm easy either way and will keep the whole weekend open.

Prep the cars, be ready for HOT weather and some awesome scenery again, as we hit the open road.

I'm still hopefully going to make this with the new ride, probably solo unless we go later on saturday which I know isn't the norm on these.

Should we bump it to the following weekend? I forgot that Ron could not make it, nor Matt S.

That would be the July 19 and/or 20th .

sorry to keep changing but it is nice to have as many as possible.
