Datsun yard sale

Post by MikeY »

Kurt's wife has sold her house and is selling all of the Datsun parts and cars. There is a few 280zx's, a 720 4x4, a 512, and lit looks like a 510 in one picture. I think there is a 260z as well. I don't know what all is there and can't answer any questions. She is a little overwhelmed and decided to have a 3 day yard sale. A few old vide members will be on site to help. I will be there on Saturday to start and will have a better idea what available then. I believe Byron is there today and maybe he will chime in here. Starts next Saturday the 19th and continues to Monday the 21st 9am until 4pm each day
6216 Calvert rd, Sooke

Looks like the red 521 pickup is no longer in the sale.

Hi,

I am a former and soon to be a new owner of a 1969 Datsun 510. The original Datsun I owned was bought from Dean in Nanaimo, and it lived with me in Duncan, I was a VIDE member and Mitch was kind enough to help me with all things Datsun. Unfortunately I was young, a starving university student, and managed to crash the car. All of these things made it impractical for me to own and I sold the car when I moved to Vancouver. 11 years later, I have purchased almost the same car but in a very stock state and in need of engine work (viewtopic.php?f=10&t=29815). I am actually heading down to Santa Cruz to pick up the car this weekend. This unfortunately means I cannot attend this but my parents, who now live in Langford, have agreed to go for me. They know nothing about cars and I was hoping someone could potentially help them with my very vague shopping list. The simple version is I want to put a reasonable L20b engine (also open to suggestions) in it, convert it to a 5 speed, and lower it. The added details/wish list are as follows (yes I know some of the items are dreaming hard but if available I would be interested in buying):

• L20b engine or bottom end running or not
o I have a A87 head with peanut chamber that comes with the car. I was planning on rebuilding the engine anyways. If there is something already built and reliable I would go that route. I want an engine that can run off normal pump gas, none of this 94 or 91 octane business.
o I have a line on one that is running with flywheel and clutch in Washington if there is nothing.
• Flywheel and Clutch
• Suspension parts for lowering, this includes coil overs, slotted/adjustable cross member, camber plates, etc
• It has a 5 speed transmission that I want to convert to however is it missing all the parts that go with it, master, slave, shifter, clutch pedal, modified mounts, shortened driveshaft (car as 2 non-shortened shafts)...
o I am confident it is a FS5C71B F7 that has the taller gearing so if there was a better transmission I would potentially be interested
• A limited slip differential preferably a R160 clutch or an R180 I have little interest in all the modifications that have to go along with switching to the newer ones. This is likely impossible to find but with the current 5 speed I want a minimum of 3.9:1 ratio

Once I have the car I should have a more complete list and you will likely find me posting for all the help but this seems like a good opportunity. If there is someone willing to help guide my parents or make suggestions I would really appreciate it. Message me and I can help setup a meeting. They are semi-retired and also very injured right now so they are quite flexible in timing but I have been trying to encourage them for Saturday at 9 am. I can also be called if they have any questions. I want to build a fun, good looking car, that can be used for road trips, the rare drive into work, and a good little project (ok, I *might* go to western occasionally as my parents do live right next door). I don’t need/want a pass everything but the gas station chirp wheels in 4th beast.

Happy to hear about advice, offers, thought now as well. The car comes with quite a few parts as well so check the list out in the original ad, potential trades etc are good in my mind too.

I actually saw this first on craigslist then on here but thought it would be better to go this route than respond to someone that is quite overwhelmed.

Thanks!

Glad to see you picked up the new car. The picture on here lookes good. I remember the tan car you bought from Dean. Welcome back to the group. I'm not sure that this is the place your going to find the performance parts you want. But I will look out for you. I will pm you my cell number. I wish I had a better idea of what is there but I won't know until I get there Sat morning.

Was planning on going there Saturday morning. Anyone else know anything about some of the inventory? Is the black 510 still there?

I believe the 510’s are already sold, there was three of them there.
But there are lots of parts, 510 and especially S30 and S130. I some some 620 & 720 panels as well. But honestly I was there to only move cars that were going to be moved to storage for safe keeping. I didn’t hav time to look at what’s really there. There were shelves and stacks of stuff everywhere, arranged into moderately organized areas.

Mike and Greg will be there on the weekend to help sort. And then the sales goes on.
There are plastic wrapped projects, some of which I remember were posted here - I believe it’s all going.

I did try to sort out all of the Roadster stuff, and put it with the Roadster and it’s stored away.

It’s really a shame, it what will be more of a shame is that what’s left over may just disappear forever, so I hope all the good stuff finds a home.

I am also fearful about the fate of what does not sell. So I hope it goes well. I am happy to help out but am buying nothing. I have enough to keep me busy, forever. But before the bin I know what I'm like . So please come and buy it all.

Too bad if they are all sold. I kind of figured people would try to make it out there before her advertised sale times. Was planning on bringing a trailer out there first thing Saturday.

Looking for a good (clean, unmolested) U67 head to rebuild. I've struck out twice now...hoping third time is a charm. If one is found here, please consider shipping it to Colorado. Let me know $ to see if it is reasonable to do so.

Thanks.

There are some things left. The 2 l20b's. They are getting harder to find. I'm sure the timing chain cover is with what she would take. I'm thinking $100 each. One still have a valve cover with a sticker on it. So that cover is nos. But very dusty. The yellow zx is still there. Has a 4 barrel carb on it. That's quite the body kit. And the 4x4 pickup didn't sell. It needs an inspection as it's from the states. But has a 2.2 napz engine and probably a 4.38 diff in the front. We couldn't throw out a pair of zx fender. Very minimal rust at the bottom. And nos zx quarter panels. Might not be Nissan as I saw no stickers and the black primer looks Asian. A pair of 240z fenders and a pair of z fiberglass headlight scoops. A pair of 240z door nice enough that I would use them if needed. Minor rust at the bottom. Not perforated but I'd unfold the door skin at the bottom and clean and treat. Do that on most doors now. The black turbo zx was his test mile for EFI harness's and while not currently running could run. Has a new harness laying on the engine. Look like a solid car.
We had a good turn out Sat and sold plenty. Tossed a bunch in the dumpster on Sunday
I hope I never hear of anyone needing a z 4 speed. Or 620 doors and fenders. You can't save everything. Act quick and if someone wants a contact number PM me. It was sad but satisfying at the same time.
