I fired the beast up this morning and headed to the car wash first. I carefully just sprayed some engine cleaner under my catch can and some wiring, and then around my steering box. Gave it a quick blast to rinse off and got rid of the oil haze from those areas.

Then drove into my old work place and measured up the windshield thickness and passed on some old paperwork to James. Nice drive on the highway.

Off to Specialty next for a plug check and look over in the bright sun before our Saturday drive, all looked good.

Blast off to home, a good run down the highway with a quick rip to beyond triple digit you know what, then a scream down the 99 exit ramp to 8th for the roundy round, hard on the brakes to the point I thought my fillings were going to come out, toss into the G-circle and feel those brand new 048's paste me to the left in the drivers seat..oh boy.... Those new brake pads I put in last year have not really been worked but after that I can tell they will be just awesome on any serious canyon carving requiring some heavy braking. We never really do as we just carry speed, but, nice to know they are there.

Tomorrow put some BPR9ES plugs in for the drive, my 8's looked a bit hot. Gather some tools and fuel up the car. I think I will drop tire pressure down, then check when hot in Princeton. I will bring my Infrared temp gauge too, check some diff temps too.

Friday grab some road food and freeze up some water for Saturdays trip.

What did you do on your 510 today? Well, I actually DROVE mine!

I finished building my 510 in late 2015 then did a few revisions in 2016 (different engine and diff). I seem to find other distractions quite easily, so 2016 rounded out with only half a dozen evening drives while I sorted out another car during the summer.

Then, 2017 saw my focus shift to an old ford falcon and some crappy alfas. The 510 might have spooled up four or five times in all of 2017. Now 2018 rolls around and more rusted debris resides in my garage, on a daily basis I ask myself why I need yet another project. After the 510 came out a few days ago it returned to storage the very next morning.

Pathetic, I am, compared to you BC guys.

Missing from this picture is your ability to see the thick layer of dust which wouldn't blow off with compressed air.

Yesterday I drove the car over to Specialty in the morning and checked out the state of the foam under my shifter (sound deadening), repaired a small split in the boot, fixed a rattle from my fire extinguisher mount and generally looked things over after the Bromley Drive. The foam was in good shape so I left it alone, it is a bit of a major to peel stuff away to replace so I will wait till the tranny comes out.

I then went back home and waxed the hood, front fenders, and roof, just to get rid of some water spots. The White Rock water has horrible mineralization and no matter how quickly I dry it, it invariably gets some spots on it.

At 6:30 I headed to one of the many Summer Night meets, this one at the McDonalds at the Vancouver airport. Traffic had thinned out which was good, as in the space of 10 minutes it went from tons to the last of rush hour. There was an eclectic mix of cars there and I had two people wander up to me right away who I have not seen in 20 years. Robyn and James had brought their cars so Datsun was well represented. I hung around to about 9:30, leaving at dusk. It was really nice to drive the car at night, been a long time. The array of colour from all the lights, the setting sun and the cool air coming in my window was just a reminder of many summers gone by.

There is another meet out in the new Industrial area not far from me in South Surrey, I may try to hit that next.

good cross section of cars and very laid back. the surrey meet is quite a bit bigger and you need to arrive befor 6 to get parking.... lots of cops once the sun goes down and rubber gets laid.

Is the Surrey one the one at 192 & 28th? That is only 10 minutes away for me! What night is that, I got two different stories on that, Tuesday or Friday. I would think Tuesday.

That area used to be one of our mountain biking forests, now mowed down into ware houses and fast food places. Only one small area remains now and there is a fight to keep that stand of timber. So sad.

They de-watered there, contrary to what should have been done, now Latimer Lake, is but a dried up swamp, and people to the east had their water wells all screwed up, as it impacted the aquifer. Somebody got paid off.

My rant for the day.

Made the turbo to block drain line. Figured out my wheel and caliper issue. Not much done but the wheel issue was a big issue.

Years ago when I had my competition belts re-webbed there has always been sharp edges where the hot knife cut the belt to length. That put the edges right near my chest where my arms would sweep across when turning. This would scratch my arms. I have been meaning to trim the corners and with a hot knife, round and smooth them. Today I did that finally!

Topped up the fuel tank for Sundays drive out to Byron's and then to the Vintage Races.

Smoke has come back in today, can hardly see across the Bay right now, supposed to be thicker yet again on Sunday. I was at 4,000 feet last week in Manning Park and we were just at the upper edge of the smoke layer. In all my life I have never seen the Fraser Valley socked in like it was on Wednesday, just brutal.

I swapped out my 8" front springs for a pair of 7" it got rid of the preload on the front end and brought my front end alignment back to where it should be. It really is nice to have the car back on the nose again. Goodbye understeer.

I put the 510 back together enough to be driveable and trailered it back to Langley for winter.

A little break from the norm (cutting out rust) I decided to strip about 5lbs of filler off the drivers door that was overing up more rust. It was about 0.5CM thick in some places.

I also painted my cam cover with VHT black wrinkle paint to make it look like I've achieved something other than cutting more of the car away.
