It ended up being a shotty/ghetto alarm setup that was the culprit. It was leftover from the PO of the car. Ripped that sucker out and no more short. Then after all of that my gauges and tail light stopped working. After bathing the fuse box in vinegar for 24hrs, it was all cleared up and good to go...

May car has been running for the past few days but tonight it decided not to start. I got no response from the starter so I started tracing and testing wires. Then I came to the Black/yellow ignition wire at the ignition switch, turned the switch to On and it got really hot and started to smoke even...

I think it was a mustang type module. not sure if it'll work for a stock tach though.

On the SR, every other shim is notched. The other shim is the one that is swapped when adjusting lash. You want them to have the same lash. So yeah, that's an SR shim in yer pan. Look on top of your valvestems under the rocker arm. Good thing you found that before you ran the motor.
