Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
So I bought the baby blue '69 above. It has been hit at some time both on the front and the rear so not really worth the bother of fixing it up. Going to part it out next weekend and send the shell to the scrap yard. Anyone have any interest in any of the parts? Motor is a J16 apparently. If your no...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
And for the wagon fans, here is an example of a Mexican 1973 wagon. It looks like it has the J15 as well but the ad posted by the owner says 1600? He is asking $22,000 MX for this one but notice it doesn't have any windshield wipers or a battery. These must be "extra" cost options!!!.

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Road conditions - don't get me started!!! Mexicans don't obey signs (many can't read) so the most effective speed control measure that they have come to utilize is the TOPE (translation - monstrous speed bump). They come in many different shapes and sizes, heights, inclination angles and type. Just ...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Here's another shot of the rear axle. This example has a somewhat "dented" gas tank.

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Here's another example of another car that is for sale in Guadalajara (asking $24,000 MX) that we went to look at. It has the rear badging and a better example of a rear bumper. This one also has the J15 engine and I think the owner said it was a 1973.

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
So I went along with my new Mexican friend (Miguel) today to take a look at another Bluebird just listed for sale in Guadalajara. Here are some pics of the version they got in Latin America. It has the 1500cc J15 motor, drum brakes all around and solid rear axle/leaf springs. The taillights are slig...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
In my case, I am not interested in importing a vehicle from Mexico into the US. I am trying to find a way to import my existing car into Mexico. There MAY be a provision with Mexican Customs (Aduana) to import it as a classic car with a duty exemption so I need to look into that further. I have foun...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Very well said Byron. This is not the place for this discussion but you are right on with your take on the situation. With a population of about 3 times that of Canada, there are undoubtedly some very bad dudes here, as everywhere. As a foreigner in this country, I am constantly learning more about ...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Lake Chapala is Mexico's largest natural lake. It is around 100km. long and about 35km. wide and sits at a bit over 5,000 ft. above seal level. It is used as a reservoir from which the city of Guadalajara (approx. 6 million people) gets it's water supply. In this picture, the lake is at only about 4...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Here is a pic taken from the deck of the casa (house) I am currently renting. Nice to wake up to every morning - truly paradise in the flesh. The Lake Chapala area of Mexico is near the top of the list as having the best weather of anywhere in the world. We have over 300 days of sunshine a year and ...

Re: Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
Yes, I am here permanently now. Really enjoying the weather and the relaxed lifestyle. There are a lot of retirees from BC and Ontario here and in the Puerto Vallarta area (about 5 hrs. west of here on the coast) but sadly, most of them are old farts and not auto enthusiasts. The Guadalajara Datsun ...

Datsun Bluebirds in Mexico
So I'm now wandering around the streets of Guadalajara looking for 510's. Looked at a few today and getting some ideas on how I might be able to get "Grasshopper 2" roaming around in the sunny south. Latin America never got our beloved 510 with the L16 and IRS. Instead, they got a variant ...

2013 Rally Guanajuato - Round #3 WRC
Olah amigos!! Just a little update since I have not posted on here in a very loooong time. I am now a retired "expat" and my wife and I have moved to the Lake Chapala area just south of Guadalajara in sunny Mexico. This weekend my son, Chris, and I have tickets to spectate at the Mexican W...

Re: PL510 collection near Peterborough, ON
The last time I spoke with Tim I think he said he was headed out of the country on a work assignment. The collection is probably still sitting in his barn.
