Re: Jeff's '70 2 Door

Great work! And nice detailed shots.
There was a lot of time spent on this repair, we can see that.
Glad to see your skills posted here on the Realm - good motivation for the rest of us!

Keep em coming!

Re: Another 72 510

I like the seat belt mod - that's pretty slick. So the parts are S13 recoil unit and a Pathfinder (1995) receiver? My brothers 4 door needs an upgrade - and I don't like the aftermarket belts much. The ones my father bought actually back off while in use, so what will they do if really needed? So I'...

Re: dogleg trans info

The Trans X Member will be different, but you can use the stock 4sd drive shaft. I have 2 of these transmissions myself. They are known to not be a strong. Mine went in "temporarily" in 2004... it's still there! And I do run R compounds on track days and auto X's - it sees use. At any rate, the clut...

Re: Rally 510 Photos & Videos

These old photos are great, it’s so awesome to see new photos of these cars. And the new 68 rally car is so cool. Man... thanks so much for posting! I have a twin master just like the one shown above. But I bought a speedometer cable “T”, and drive mine off there. Back in the days when taxi cabs sti...

Re: tire choices -- aggressive summer -VTO wheels - BS >>?

It's good discussion, but having only run the Yoko's, I can't weigh in.

For the record, I install my R compounds and drive to Mission without much thought :-) But I think I'd carry them to Area 27, that's good hike.

Re: Front short strut inserts whats available in 2019?

I have used the VW Rabbit inserts and cut the struts down the match - it was low... Realy Low! I ended up making another set of struts using MR2 inserts. But all’s not lost, just use a tube spacer at the bottom of the strut tube to bring them up - maybe 1-1.5” for a street car. There’s enough stroke...

Re: Turn Signal and Hazard Relays

Memory is telling me that the L shaped plug was the signal flasher, and that other was the hazards....

I guess I’ll be finding out soon on the Greg Terry car myself! Keep us posted.

Re: Measured Amp Draw - '69 510

The fan number doesn’t suppress me. I have 2x 12” fans on the Bronze, and they kick in simultaneously - I’ve never measured but it’s a huge power draw! The fans are impressive. Standing at the trunk, I can clearly feel the air rush by my legs when the fans kick in! They are that good!

Re: R200 LSD options/setup

Just as a passing note; when I installed my new Precision gear CLSD years ago- it sounded like a bag of hammers Out of the box. I seriously thought it was broken. After putting a few miles on it, and adding a bottle of GM LSD fluid, I found a parking lot that I could drive around in tight to tighter...

Re: Jordan's '72 2 door KA project

The bolt on plate coolers are great information. I have a 13 plate NASCAR type cooler built into my rad, and it works very well - keeping the oil at radiator temp in all conditions. Infact under cold conditions it’s actually keeping the oil and coolant too cool! If these coolers can be utilized inli...

Re: vw rad with L20

While sitting here at the Edmonton airport this morning, I searched in vein for the rad hose part numbers. Closest I could find is a 2005 post just mentioning the swap; http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3544&p=30758&hilit=Part+number+hose#p30758 I wonder if I used a stock 510 hose? I’ll...

Byron has a R190 in the Bronze I think. He may have dimensions.
The R190 went under Paul’s vintage race car in 2010 as it had a slight input bearing noise and it was NLA , I’ve been running an R180 with the last of the Precision Gear LSD’s since about 2008/9.
