Re: Ride Height
I drove several times and measured using a long level on trunk floor and checked fender arch height. Garage floor has slight incline but is levelled left to right. The next day car is near perfectly levelled. That is the mystery. Replaced shock was oil filled. This does not apply to this and I know ...

Ride Height
My '71 4-Door is finally roadworthy. Suspension is stock and only shock absorbers were replaced with new ones. Nothing fancy. After short drive I noticed that passenger side is lower than driver side. It is visible and right side is about 20 mm lower than left. It looks like right rear suspension is...

Re: Engine Rev Up
Ran without air cleaner and butterfly close/open by the cable OK. I need to step on the gas pedal gradually (very slowly) to accelerate. By the way I like my stock choke cable but it is 2" short for Weber. I do not want to use the cable came with Weber. Is there any way to extend the stock chok...

Engine Rev Up
My restoration of '71 is almost complete and took 17 years to get here. Basically stock with L18 Weber 32/36 manual choke (bought new and installed 10 years ago), A/T conversion to 5-speed manual. Problem I am having is hard starting and rev up. Need a starting fluid to start. Once started running, ...

Re: Clutch and Pressure Plate for L18
Thank you all for your information now I know what to do this weekend. After reading your comments, my memory got clearer. My '71 was originally with 3-Speed column AT and I got 4-speed stock transmission from local CL and converted to manual. The seller gave me used 311's clutch disc and pressure p...

Clutch and Pressure Plate for L18
I have L18 on ''71 with stock trans and need a new clutch kit. I do not know where this L18 came from, but can I use clutch for stock L16? If not, which model/year of Datsun with L18 I should search for matching clutch? I cannot locate block ID but the head has A87 on it. Any info would be appreciat...

Re: Stock front wheel alignment
Thank you for the instruction. I confirmed the linearity of rear wheels. Using jack stands and string, I adjusted passenger side toe-in. I will work on the driver side tomorrow.

Re: Stock front wheel alignment
OK, I made my gauge tool and started measuring. Now I now it is a bit toe-out. Maybe I am missing something but I have one beginner question. Most DIY instruction says to adjust (turn tie rod) equal amount on each wheel till in the spec. This may work if both wheels are already aligned. Since mine i...

Re: Stock front wheel alignment
Thank you for valuable information. Now I am dangerous enough and know what to do. I think I can use my aluminum extrusion to build my trammel bar. I too told the tire shop that I have factory alignment spec but that did not make any difference. I thought it was an easy part of my project but was no...

Stock front wheel alignment
Replaced all rusted frozen front suspension/steering parts of 71 sedan and now I need alignment job. So I called nearby tire shop and they declined the service of old cars like mine. Maybe they just do not want to do it for some reason but do I need to look for a special tune-up shop for this job or...

Re: 32/36 DGV Accelerator Pump
Thank you for your comment. I opened Accelerator Pump and think it was possibly by a defective diaphragm. Plunger part was positioned off centered on gasket and not seating properly. This carburetor is still "like new" condition and I did not expect the failure. New replacement part was or...

32/36 DGV Accelerator Pump
First, let me say I cannot thank enough to all active members in this forum. It took 12 years but my '71 510 is now getting very close to go beyond the nearby gas station. Trying to clear one hurdle at a time.... I have a difficulty in acceleration. Stock L18 with 32/36 with manual choke. Idling is ...

Re: Oil leak from mechanical pump weep hole
Thanks for the info. My knowledge of engine oils is very limited and I picked QS simply because it says " Protection for new and old engines. All Mileage" May be they did not mean a half century old. Which engine oil would you recommend for stock L series engines? I will try TRV.
