Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
Actually, looking at the work involved in your K24 swap, I really do wonder if even with the cost of the trans adaptor to a Nissan transmission, if that K swap might end up being reasonably cost competitive. As you said, they can make a lot of hp stock, are readily in every scrapyard you care to nam...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
To be fair, I'm not actually doing anything at all at the moment! I didn't buy anything related to a swap at all. Still L20B all the way. I really hadn't considered that the solid mounts would be that bad, but reflecting on it, I suppose I've more commonly seen that style used in more race-oriented ...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
In case anyone else is still even remotely interested in something like a VG swap these days. Someone is still making engine mounts for a VG to drop into a 510. https://puckerfactoryfab.com/products/68-73-510-vg30e-33e-swap-mounts The promised trans mounts haven't appeared on the site in the year I'...

Fair Price on DCOEs's?
As the title implies, I am curious what anyone might offer for a set of DCOE40s. Found a set relatively close to me for $500 CAD... I know they'll need a manifold, linkage, jets, etc.... So, I surely don't expect to be able to use them any time soon. Of course, I've seen the ITBs been made from moto...

Welp. Couldn't log in since whenever I last posted using this user ID, so it's been a little bit. Sometimes it's good to take time away from a thing in any case, give you a chance to assess. In this case, if anyone is still interested in chatting about it, or sharing any information they may have, I...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
Personally I'd stay far away from the KA. I've got a SOHC and am not impressed with it. They're heavy, inefficient, and their trannies are getting hard to come by. The only real positive I've found is that they have nice torque and fit well in the PL510 . I'm seriously considering pulling mine out ...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
On paper the VG33 may look like the best route but I would take a D21 turbo KA over it all day. The amount of money it takes to get the VG in you could get a D21 KA and 2WD trans and turbo it. The VG just falls off so much in the high RPM's to me that doesn't feel sporty. Feels like a truck. Also y...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
KA24's are great because they are a super simple swap, reliable and used to be a dime a dozen. Not so much anymore. VG's although they sound cool they are a boat anchor and don't go in so easy. You need a kit, including custom headers ect. (Yes we all know the S12 VG units will bolt in if you can f...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
Thanks Dadzsun, Yes. Firmly in the realm of getting ahead of myself, my first thought had been the KA swap, since it is by most accounts the easiest and definitely the best documented here. Once I spent a little more time reading on it, and looking at what is available in Ontario, I decided against ...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
Yup. I'm wrong all over the place. Mixing up my 180SX's with 240SX's and the powerplants they came with. I lived in Aus breifly and NZ for a couple years as well, so I'm remembering things incorrectly. In my head, a 180/240 are pretty much the same thing, and yes, it is the SR20-T that I am thinking...

Re: VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
Sorry, to disambiguate, I meant the KA24-T out of a 240sx, I wasn't clear there. They probably did come to Canada, but I'm not finding anything around here, and I don't think the 510 needs a turbo for my intended use. Trans would indeed be a from an S32 (link won't last long, I assume...) https://ww...

Re: Greetings from Atlantic Canada.
Welcome to the forum. I'm new here as well, and also a first time Datsun owner, tho old hand on forums. I feel your pain, currently living in Southern Ontario where salt on roads is a fiasco. It was better when I lived in Central/Northern Ontario. Often too cold for salt to do anything, to we use to...

VG33 (Xterra) Swap - 2022
To preface, I hope I've done enough research before asking questions that I'm not wasting lots of people's time, but I spent quite a while going through here and ratsun to figure out what people have done that works and does not. This kind of got started when an Xterra came up for sale not far from ...

Re: Z24 Value today?
Thanks for the information. Doesn't sound like there is much of value in the engine to anyone then, without some serious and probably pointless work. I was mainly curious about picking it up while I was there if anyone had use for parts out of it. Very much appreciate the details on possible other e...

Re: Z24 Value today?
Thanks Mike, I haven't forgotten our correspondance about a wagon hatch. This just came up close to me. It's not in great shape, so it may not be an easy replacement, but perhaps something to learn a little bodywork on. It does have glass, lights and locking mechanism for $200, as well as plenty of ...
