Re: Project Assimilation
Well it looks as though this project has taken a turn for the better. For the project, I've purchased a house with a garage  Project Assimilation has been moved into it's new home for a complete stripping. http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/facilities-upgrade.html http://michaelduddy.com/datsun...

Re: Project Assimilation
Alright. I understand and totally respect your reasons. Each to his own!!! Our project will now involve more google searches and page scrolling than expected. -------------------- HudsonMC - Our shocks were purchased on the web listed as 280ZX shocks. We're going to cut the spring seat for the rear....

Re: Project Assimilation
If anyone says "yes they will bolt right up" and you go out there and find out they don't, you are going to be pissed, so you might as well just go out and try it, I'm sure they will as most brakes have the same type/size fittings, but if you find out otherwise you can surely fix it with ...

Re: Project Assimilation
Alright back to the build. We bought these puppies: http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/2012-11-03-16.34.37small-e1352464277527.jpg We are guessing we have to cut the spring seat in order to fit these on the rear? Here is the plan (let me know if this makes sense): Purchase ...

Re: Project Assimilation
Is that attached at points other than the front bumper? 'Cause the front bumpers pretty flimsy (and flimsily mounted) on general principle. Nope. Mounted only to the bumper for now. It's better than nothing. Might not do much for deer...but will help for other smaller animals I'm sure... Wondering ...

http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/DSC08451small-e1350652597173.jpg Since we've taken the 510 through it's first Navigational rally, it needed something to minimize wildlife damage. Have a look at the DeerKiller bumper making!! http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/mind-the-de...

Re: Project Assimilation
Good idea! I imagine you shortened the part of the bracket where the screw goes through so it turns down just short of the rolled edge?indy510 wrote:.
I bolted the metal fuel filter bracket from underneath, instead of on-top .... just to make it easier to wax/polish the engine bay ...

Re: Project Assimilation
Awesome. Things are starting to clear up. Glad to have this community to help out. Thanks okayfine for your support! We've shaved 22 grams off the 510, with our carbon fibre fuel filter bracket. If anybody wants one, just PM us or send us an email. http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/wp-content/upload...

Re: Project Assimilation
I eventually want 4 wheel disc brakes and a ride height thats equal or lower than stock. Don't want any bottoming out or bouncing around. The car will have 15" panasport (or similar) wheels with whatevr off set I need to not rub in the fenders. Don't care if I have coil-overs or spring in trail...

Re: Project Assimilation
Awesome. thanks for the suggestions. We'll do that once the tank is empty. Now we have located the 280ZX suspension. In the rear, do we need the 280ZX trailing arms? or is the hub/spindle bolted on somehow? Should we go with the 280ZX spring? or is it worth going coilovers at that point? Thoughts? T...

Re: Project Assimilation
Well the filter is changed and you can go check it out at: http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/kidney-transplant.html http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/DSC08441small.jpg But we still have this hesitation. On full throttle its fine, on low rpm its fine, but between 3-4000rpm,...

Re: Project Assimilation
Well we are electronic ignition now. We bought the Pertronix mod and it's working great. We still have some hesitation even tough we've checked the vacuum advance and have timed the engine. We are thinking fuel filter and are picking it up today. http://michaelduddy.com/datsun510/wp-content/uploads/...

Re: Project Assimilation
We know we are jumping around quite a bit, but you can't have a linear process with a rolling project. While we are planning the composite floor pan, looking for 280ZX hubs and shocks, wondering about the oil leak we have, contemplating the distributor swap to eliminate the points, and finding ways ...

YEEHAW! We're going to dub you "Project Good Ol' Boys" if those stay on for long. hmmm he knows too much  .5mm might not be enough clearance for an old steelie. Putting around town is probably fine for now. Aggressive driving (well, as aggressive as you can get with old 195/60/15s)...

Re: Project Assimilation
I had 195/60/15's laying around, so we've installed them for now. Better than the 13's for the look, the speedometer precision, road dampening, and highway rpms ;) The rear were bolt on, but in the front, we used 1,8mm thick washers to make sure the tire doesn't rub on the shock. Now there is approx...
